Notes on Webcast Recording

If you want to go for extra credit and record your term project as a webcast, this information might be helpful.

I recorded all the webcasts at OpinionatedLessons using Camtasia, from TechSmith. This is a commercial product for Windows, but it is downloadable with a free 30 day trial period. You can buy a student version from the UT Campus Computer Store for about $100 (Windows or Mac, I think).

A free alternative to Camtasia is CamStudio (also for Windows). I haven't used it, but it seems to be widely used.

Adobe Captivate is commercial (and expensive), but there is a 30 day free trial version that you can download. I haven't tried it.

For Linux, there don't seem to be many alternatives, but one of the more discussed is xvidcap.

There is a Wikipedia article that compares many free and commercial screencast software offerings. I don't know how reliable it is, but it is a starting point.

Please post here any further information that might help other students (or me!).
